The painting was created in Paris where Zorn regularly traveled by bus from his home in Montmartre, just to study the passengers. As the bus rolled through the city, the light inside was constantly changing. Electric street lamps had recently been installed in Paris and the mixture of artificial and natural light created new and unexpected effects
